Biennial session of Lakhimpur district Xahitya Xabha ends

LAKHIMPUR: The 20th biennial session of Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha concluded with success. The event was hosted by Laluk branch unit of Xahitya Xabha with a day-long programme at Martyr Shiva Prashad Baruah Samanway Kshetra.

The agenda of the event began with the unfurling of Axam Xahitya Xabha (LDXX) flag by LDXX president Sapon Kumar Dutta and 20 flags by 20 prominent personalities marking the 20th event. Organizing committee secretary Debojit Deka Baruah performed the smirti tarpan event while Laluk regional AASU general secretary Dibyajyoti Gogoi paid floral tribute to the martyrs commemorating their noble deeds.

The Martyr Shiva Prashad Baruah Samanway Kshetra was opened by Mukheswari Baruah, the mother of the martyr of the Assam Anti-Foreigners Movement. In the event, special tribute was paid to promising litterateur Manibhadra Gohain who breathed his last at a young age, by dedicating the open stage in his name - Manibhadra Gohain Mukali Mancha. Laluk Academy High School headmaster Dhiraj Borah lit the earthen lamp in the stage while teacher Minati Goswami Pujari paid tribute to the litterateur commemorating his contribution. Then the children programme of AXX Kuhi was held with LDXX vice-president Umananda Baruah in the chair.

It was followed by the delegates’ meeting which was chaired by Sapon Kumar Dutta. Inaugurated by Laluk Junior College Principal Pradip Borah, the delegates’ meeting took several resolutions regarding various issues of the State. As per these resolutions, LDXX will continue its opposition to Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019 and its pressure to use the Assamese language on signboards, billboards and in administrative level. Moreover, LDXX will endeavour to create the Satajan and Bordoibam bird parks of the district as tourist attraction and Dhakuakhana and Ghilamora as industrial sites of Muga.

On the other hand, the open session of the event was held with newly-elected LDXX president Bipul Sarmah Baruah in the chair. Stress was laid on expediting the progress of the greater Assamese society by promoting and developing the Assamese language. Newly elected secretary of AXX, Jadav Sarmah Baruah graced the occasion as chief guest while academician Herombo Prashad Baruah, Lakhimpur AASU president Pulokjyoti Borah, AJYCP president Mondeep Neog, and others were present as guests of honour.

In the same event, regular publication of LDXX, Subansiri, edited by Naba Kamal Borah, was released by Mising Xahtya Xabha president Tuleswar Pegu, while book of poems ‘Kabya Kanan’, edited by Pradip Chetia, was jointly released by Pulokjyoti Borah and Mondeep Neog. Chief guest Jadab Sarmah released Nam Puspanjali, authored by Mrinali Saikia while Pabitra Saikia released the Eti Saponar Ukmukani by the same author.
