BISWANATH CHARIALI: Against the backdrop of increasing COVID-19 cases in many States, Biswanath Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sarmah, on Wednesday convened a high-level meeting at his conference hall to check preparedness of the administration in case of any eventuality.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has made wearing of masks at public places, business establishments, educational institutions, government and private offices compulsory.

Provisions for thermal screening, hand wash and sanitizer too have been mandatory in offices, education institutions and business establishments. People have also been asked to maintain social distancing at public places.

Frequent hand washing, wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing have been made compulsory for all educational institutions across the district. Market areas will also be frequently sanitized by the administration from now onwards.

Further, the DC has set a target of minimum 1,000 COVID-tests per day for the Health department to undertake. Testing all passengers arriving in Biswanath district from outside by train or bus has also been made mandatory. All hostel boarders of educational institutions will also be tested for COVID from tomorrow onwards. All block, thana and district-level COVID committees will also be immediately activated and will be kept prepared.

"The situation is normal in Biswanath; but, in view of increasing cases outside Assam, we are keeping ourselves alert and prepared. Our top most priority is to check the spread of the virus at any cost at the very beginning and for that the only way out is to undertake vigorous testing and isolating the positive patients. On the other hand, we want to make the vaccination drive go on full swing," said the Deputy Commissioner.

The meeting was also attended by Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajen Singh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zila Parishad Ranjit Swargiary, Gohpur SDO (C) Aditya Vikram Yadav, Additional Deputy Commissioners Miftahuddin Ahmed, Liza Talukdar, Dr Surya Kamal Borah, and other administrative officers and heads of various departments.
