Dibrugarh: Leader of the Congress party, Debabrata Saikia accused BJP of violating the model code of conduct before the Panchayat elections at an event here on Thursday. He also accused the party of planning to rig the upcoming Panchayat elections at various places. Taking a sharp dig at Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the leader of the Opposition party said that Sarma could pass any remark to win elections. Saikia also slammed Sarma for preferring election campaigns to attending to the demands of the nurses. This neglect had led to some degree of stalemate in the health facilities across the State, he stated. Saikia also questioned the rationale behind CM Sarbananda Sonowal campaigning for the elections at the expense of State Administration. He even cast aspersions on BJP’s funding of elections, and accused the political party of giving tacit approval to many illegal activities including trade in forest resources. Saikia also reiterated Congress’ opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, besides asking president of AIUDF, Badruddin Ajmal not to meddle in the affairs of the Congress party.
