BJP members of Dibrugarh Municipal Board ordered to step down

Dibrugarh: To throw yet another spanner in the works of Dibrugarh Municipality Board, president of BJP Dibrugarh District Committee, Indra Gogoi has recently ordered 10 BJP members of the Municipal Board to step down from their current positions on the grounds of violating party direction.

The order reportedly came in the wake of the members going against the party precept and passing a no-confidence motion against the Chairperson, Soma Chakraborty. The ones against whom the above order was passed included Amit Singh, Bajrang Mittal, Manik Ghosh, Jogananda Sensua, Nausaba Rahman, Mamon Gogoi Mitra, Rachna Jain, Champa Dey, Arpana Das and Anuradha Dey. As per sources, though these municipality members were asked by the BJP State President, Ranjit Dass to keep from passing such a motion against the Chairperson, they didn’t follow the direction, and took the decisive step with the support of Congress municipality members. The no-confidence motion, however, in the meantime, has been temporarily stayed by the Guwahati High Court till the end of the upcoming Panchayat elections.
