Bodo Sahitya Sabha observes 19th death anniversary of Bineswar Brahma

Kokrajhar: Nineteen years back on August 19, a great thinker and worker of the society, ‘Subungthini Thandwi’ Bineswar Brahma was shot dead by armed assailants in his Betapara residence in Guwahati. The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), in association with the Bineswar Brahma Trust, observed his 19th death anniversary at his burial ground in Chandamari near Gaurang River in Kokrajhar on Monday.

As part of the programme, the president of BSS, Taren Boro hoisted the organizational flag at half-mast while Bineswar Brahma’s wife Puspalatha Brahma paid tribute at the portrait of her husband. Hundreds of members of BSS, ABSU, ABWWF, students, villagers and leaders of BTC paid floral tribute to the great leader.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, minister Pramila Rani Brahma, EMs of BTC-Doneswar Goyary and Lwmsrao Daimary, and various other dignitaries attended the memorial lecture and paid tribute to Brahma.

Addressing the gathering, the chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary said that Bineswar Brahma was one of the most dynamic leaders with all abilities to run an organization. Brahma played a pivotal role in uniting the Bodos with his decisive outlook, he said.

Mohilary called upon all to shun violence and to come forward under one fold to defeat evil and divisive forces in the region. He said unity was the only option to achieve the desired goal of the Bodos. He said he was trying to convince the anti-talk faction of the NDFB to come to the negotiation table and also to unify all groups under a single fold for bringing an acceptable solution. He further said the BTC had been trying to upgrade the burial place of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma and the engineering college had been named after him in Kokrajhar.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma said that Bineswar Brahma led the society from the front and he not only worked for the Bodo Sahitya Sabha but also actively took part in the tripartite talks on Bodoland issue. Besides, he advocated for unification among Bodos.
