BONGAIGAON: “Though we are living in the 21st century, women are still harassed sexually, physically and mentally. This is going on because of lack of awareness. We have observed this International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women to make all the people aware about it,” said Nilima Biswas, president of the women’s wing of North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union, Bongaigaon branch on Monday in Bongaigaon.

The day was observed by the women’s wing of all four branches of NFRMU - Bongaigaon, New Bongaigaon, Running and Workshop branch. Several noted persons, including Nilima Biswas, Hemi Bora and District Social Welfare Officer Jayashree Barua, were present in this meeting. After the meeting, a play on a real story of violence against women was staged by local artistes.
