LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Asom (TAYPA) conferred its Bor Asom Samanway Bota to Bishnu Kharghoria, noted actor-cum-theatre personality of the State. The prestigious award was given away to him in the open session organized on Thursday evening on the occasion of Asom Divas celebrated by the organization. The award has been instituted by the organization for the last three years on this occasion. The award consists of Rs. 25,000 cash, a memento, a heng-dang, traditional male attires of the Ahom community with a turban.

Notably, the Lakhimpur district unit of TAYPA observed the Asom Divas on Thursday at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town in a befitting manner in association with the North Lakhimpur regional committee of the organization and Tai Ahom Mohila Parishad. The agenda of the programmes organized on this occasion began with the unfurling of the organizational flag by president Sanjib Luku Konwar. Then the smriti tarpan and garlanding of Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha statue was conducted by working president Ruhit Saikia and secretary Pranjal Hilton Konwar. It was followed by a felicitation of senior citizens and symposium, which was inaugurated by noted Social activist Uday Sankar Hazarika. Guna Phukan, and other personalities took part in the symposium in a cordial environment commemorating Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha and his contribution to build greater Assam in 13th century.

TAYPA central committee organizing secretary Dipul Tamuli Phukan inaugurated the ethnic cultural convention. Suchengpha Gogoi, professor of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), inaugurated the traditional attire competition which was organized in view of promoting the Edi, Silk and Muga industry of the State. In connection, Ahom Kunwari competition was also organized.

The open session of the event commenced with president Sanjib Luku Konwar in the chair. Hiranya Sabhapandit, the Head of the Department of Assamese, Lakhimpur Girls' College, took part in the programme as appointed speaker while TAYPA central committee president Dilip Gogoi graced the occasion as chief guest.
