TANGLA: Hundreds of women participated in a mass gathering of women organized by the Khalingduar Block Bodoland People's Front (BPF) at BordoloiBhavan inTangla town of Udalguri district on Thursday.

The rally was a show of strength of the BPF ahead of the forthcoming election to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). The meeting was inaugurated by former Executive Member of BTC and BPF candidate for Khalingduar BTC constituency, BonjarDaimari who started the event by lighting lamp and paying floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. BhupenHazarika on the occasion of his 9th death anniversary.

Addressing the gathering, Daimari said that the four districts of Bodo belt were grappling with problems before 2003 but after BPF was voted to power for three consecutive terms, the region witnessed noticeable development in every aspects. Lambasting the opposition parties, Daimari said, "The social media is flooded with allegations of corruption. This is all false propaganda. If the previous BPF government did not do the development works then who did it? The opposition leaders are selling the moon and promising the people of government jobs and financial aid to Self-Help Groups (SHG). But I urge people not to be swayed by such false promises," he said.

He further reiterated and said BPF had sole agenda of providing socio-political safeguard to every community and to take up a slew of development works in BTC. PaneriMLA,KamaliBasumatary and senior party leader Malati Rani Narzary participated and addressed the huge gathering. The meeting was also attended by BPF women wing leaders, among others.
