Brahmaputra flowing above danger level at Neematighat

JORHAT, July 7: The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neematighat, Jhanjimukh following heavy shower at higher altitude in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Major tributaries of the Brahmaputra like Bhogdoi, Jhaji, Puthi, Kakodunga, Charaipani, Doyang and Dikhow are all flowing above danger level and have submerged nearby villages. Over 75,000 population with 600 hectares of cultivated land in Jorhat district have been affected. Meanwhile, State Power Minister Tapan Gogoi was slammed by a section of Jorhat citizens and Congress workers, including Rana Goswami, Nikhil Bharat Congress Committee general secretary, at a meeting on Saturday. Rana Goswami said that after Tapan Gogoi took charge as Power Minister of the State, the power scenario in the State had turned from bad to worse. He alleged that APDCL employees neglected their duties and people had to suffer due to prolonged power cuts.
