TEZPUR: Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Manvendra Pratap Singh inaugurated a 'Buyer-Seller' meet in the office of the Joint Director, Agriculture, Majgaon, Tezpur on Tuesday under World Bank financed APART in presence of the MLA of Tezpur, Brindavan Goswami, District Agriculture Officer Prakash Bora and officials from various departments and agencies like ARIAS Society, DICC, Spice Board, Punjab National Bank, NERAMAC, APEDA, KVK and Dabur India with some potential FIG, FPC and buyers.

The programme was organized by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Sonitpur. A wide variety of agri-horti commodities were put on display by invited FIGs/FPCs, supported by APART production clusters across the district, along with an exhibition of seven agri-horti crops viz. cabbage, cauliflower, tomato, black gram, ginger, turmeric and paddy. The one-of-its-kind meeting included interactions of progressive FIG/FPC with invited officials and representatives from different agencies and departments, with the aim to provide a market platform for profitable agricultural and horticultural commodities under APART.

Discussions related to various topics such as cash-crop farming, market linkage, industry association, market intelligence, market information and loans for farmers were held across the buyer-seller meet.

District Agriculture Officer Prakash Bora gave the welcome address. Delivering the inaugural speech, Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh stressed the need to adopt new technologies in the field so that production could be boosted with the ultimate aim to usher in a new green revolution in the district. The Deputy Commissioner also appraised the buyer-seller meeting that progressive farmers should be encouraged to take up new profitable agricultural opportunities like export facilities of their produce in future.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA of Tezpur, Brindavan Goswami welcomed the step taken in organizing the meeting and said that such activities would go a long way in encouraging and motivating farmers by boosting their confidence. He also stressed the need to bring as many farmers under the umbrella of various government schemes as possible in line with the Prime Minister of India's vision to double the income of farmers by the year 2022. He appealed to the farmers to come forward and avail the benefits of various subsidy schemes offered by the government and to adopt new technologies in the field so that production could be boosted.
