Bye-election: Restrictions imposed on possession of arms in Sivasagar district

A CORRESPONDENT 

DEMOW: In view of the bye-election to 107-Thowra LAC to be held on October 30, the District Magistrate of Sivasagar Megha Nidhi Dahal by an order issued on October 5, imposed restrictions on possession of arms and ammunition during the notified period of election. Through this order, the District Magistrate directed all arm licensees of Sivasagar district to deposit their arms and ammunition in the nearest police station with immediate effect, failing to which necessary actions as per provision of Arms Act, 1959, as amended, will be taken against the defaulters. It may be mentioned that arms and ammunition so deposited will be released as soon as the notified period of election is over.
