Kokrajhar: Various student and social organizations, including the All Bodo Students, Union (ABSU), Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM), All Bodo Women Welfare Federation (ABWWF), have demanded strong action and immediate arrest of the accused involved in the abduction and rape of a 12-year old Bodo girl at Bortola under Dhaligaon police station in Chirang district on August 15.

Meanwhile, Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) has demanded that all illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who are illegally grabbing land in tribal belts under Sidli block must be evicted as the massive increase in number of suspected nationals in the district has led to increase in crimal acts like rape, murder and robbery.

Students, local citizens led by Kajalgaon Anchalik Committee of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), on Wednesday carried out a protest rally at Kajalgaon demanding immediate arrest of the accused Mohibul Ali Ahmed alias Babu, capital punishment to the culprits and compensation to the victim. A memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Chirang for immediate arrest and action against the culprits involved in the crime.

The Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) and All Bodo Women Welfare Federation (ABWWF) too e expressed their strong voice against the rape of the minor tribal girl.

A delegation of BJSM and ABWWF, led by BJSM working president Daorao Dekreb Narzary, former MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary and members from the ABWWF on August 20 met Chirang Deputy Commissioner Gautam Talukdar seeking his intervention in the case. They expressed their strong reservation in the police’s failure to arrest the culprits involved in the case even after five days of the incident.

“It has been over six days since the incident s happened but the accused is still to be arrested. We demand that the culprits must be arrested at the earliest and punished in public,” said BJSM working president Daorao Dekreb Narzary. He said crimes like rape, murder, robbery and molestation were on the rise in Chirang district. He said that after setting up of Bongaigaon Refinery Petrochemicals Ltd. at Dhaligaon in 1972, the suspected Bangladeshi nationals migrated to the area and a large part of tribal belts and blocks under Sidli Block had been illegally occupied by these suspected nationalities.

Narzary said the rape accused Mohibul Ali Ahmed, who hailed from Bhaikungaon village is also under Sidli Tribal belt notified on December 5, 1947. He demanded that all illegal immigrants who were living in tribal belts and blocks must be evicted immediately.
