Golaghat: The Clean and Green Village Mission, an initiative by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal under MyGov Assam, was launched in Chakialgaon under Athkhelia Gaon Panchayat of Golaghat district by brand ambassador of Assam Forest Department, Ananda Khataniar.

Chakialgaon is one out of the 33 villages of the State selected for this mission, with one village from each district. The inaugural function was organized by MyGov Assam in association with the PHE department and the district administration.

Addressing the gathering, environmentalist Ananda Khataniar appealed to the people of the village to commit themselves to the cause of conservation of the environment as it had become pertinent to save the environment from degrading. He appealed to the older generation to educate the youth about the importance of conservation and the need to plant more and more trees. He also stressed the need to protect and nurture the saplings that were planted as part of plantation drives every year so that they survive and grow into full-fledged trees.

Khataniar said taking up plantation drives along river banks could be one way to address the problem of erosion in the State. In his speech he also laid stress on reducing the use of plastic and banning plastic articles made for single-use and appealed to the villagers to maintain hygiene and sanitation at all cost.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra also appealed to the people to ban the use of plastic and opt for reusable materials. He announced a one-time aid of Rs 10,000 to Sahasra Grameen Mahila Sangha and sports equipment received from the CM’s office to Udaygiri Juba Sangha. After the launch ceremony, the sports equipment was given away by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dhiraj Das and saplings were also distributed among the public by Ananda Khataniar and officials of PHE department.
