UDALGURI: With a view to improve the inter-state connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and to give a boost to socio-economic condition of the people living along the border, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for construction of an RCC bridge over Dhansiri River on Udalguri-Bhairabkunda Road under NERSDS Project for the year 2021-22. The bridge will be constructed with a financial outlay of Rs. 34.42 crores and is targeted to be completed within 2025, stated a press release.

Speaking on the occasion in a programme held at Bhairabkunda, the Chief Minister said that once construction is completed, the bridge would yield significant socio economic benefit to the people living in Udalguri and Darrang district in particular and other parts of the State in general. This bridge would also shorten the travel time to Western Arunachal Pradesh including Tawang which is a very popular international tourist hub of this region. The bridge would also give a major boost to tourism potential of Bhairabkunda and generate employment, he said.

Stating that development of roads infrastructure is a priority area for the State government, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that the Assam government has undertaken implementation of "Goodwill project" in BTR and already sanctioned Rs. 500 crore for construction of roads and bridges and carrying out various developmental works in the region. He also said that the State government is taking up a mega roads infrastructure project under Chief Minister's Paki Path Nirmaan Achoni, Unnata Paki Path Nirmaan Achani, Path Nabikaran Achoni and Mothauri Pokikaran Achoni under which all-weather roads would be constructed across Assam.

Dr. Sarma also informed that the Assam government procured 5 lakh MT paddy from farmers at MSP Rs 1940 to this date. The MSP amount would be increased to above Rs 2000 from next year, he said. The Chief Minister further said that a decision has already been taken to hike daily wages of tea garden workers and construction of 2000 Anganwadi Centres in the State.

He also informed that the State government plans to raise 5 new commando battalions and providing 10 thousand government jobs during the month of September.

Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal, BTR Chief Pramod Bodo, Deputy Chief of BTR and MLA Gobinda Basumatary, MLA Ganesh Limbu, Adviser of NEC Navin Kumar, Special Commissioner & Special Secretary of PWD (Roads) Rajesh Kemprai, Chairman FISHFED Gurujyoti Das, former minister Rihon Daimary were also present in the meeting.
