CM Sonowal Extends Gratitude to People of Assam on Completion of Four Years of State Government

Guwahati: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday thanked the people of Assam and extended deep gratitude for their unstinted support and cooperation to the BJP led coalition government in the State which has completed four years today.

While talking to media persons after visiting a quarantine centre at Demow Polytechnic Institute in Sivasagar district, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the unwavering support of the people towards the State government would continue in future also. Chief Minister Sonowal during his visit also inspected Sivasagar Primary Health Centre today.

The Chief Minister said that during last four years, his government has put in best efforts for holistic development of the State and with people's cooperation the State is scaling newer heights in terms of development. The Chief Minister also thanked the people for adhering to the directives issued by the health department in view of COVID-19 pandemic and also making the lockdown successful. Chief Minister Sonowal also assured that his government would continue coordinated effort to ensure health and security of the people of the State.

Stating that the State government is fighting against COVID-19 and flood and erosion simultaneously, the Chief Minister said that he has already directed all Deputy Commissioners to set up separate cells to carry out relief and rescue operations expeditiously during flood. He observed that the district administrations have already geared up with all preparations to deal with flood and said that they have been directed to provide all possible support to the people affected by flood.

Moreover, he said that the challenges posed by novel coronavirus pandemic would be more daunting and called upon people to fight against it as a cohesive force. Chief Minister Sonowal also urged the people who are in home or institutional quarantine to follow all health directives in toto and warned that stern action would be taken against violators.

Referring to the economic stimulus package worth Rs. 20 lakh crore announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rejuvenate the battered economy, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the State government has taken various steps on priority basis to make best out of this package and to bring the State's economy on track. The Chief Minister also appreciated the government of different States for their support in facilitating return of the stranded people of Assam to their home State.

During the visit to the quarantine centre, the Chief Minister interacted with the doctors, paramedical staff and other officials and took stock of the arrangements at the centre. It may be mentioned that altogether 73 people who returned to the State from Mumbai, Chennai, Kerala, Bengaluru and Delhi were quarantined in the centre.

Minister of State in-charge for Revenue and Disaster Management Jogen Mohan, MP Tapan Kumar Gogoi, MLAs Kushal Duwari, Nabanita Handique and Chakradhar Gogoi, Sivasagar DC Lakshminandan Gogoi, SP Amitabh Sinha, Joint Director of Health Services Shyamanta Madhab Sarma and other senior officials were present during the visit of the Chief Minister.
