CM urged to take steps against human rights violation

Tezpur, June 11: A general meeting of human rights was held on Monday at the Human Rights Action Council Asom, Assam Chapter office premises. The meeting was presided over by advisor of the HRACA and advocate, Goutam Sarkar. While addressing the meeting, director of HRACA, Dr. Parashmoni Singha discussed various human rights issues on increased violation in the State in presence of Samiran Singha, field observer of HRACA, Udalguri, Rased Ahmed, field observer, Sonitpur, and Dipak Borah, field observer, Lakhimpur, among others. Dr. Sinha appealed to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to look into the matter and take appropriate steps to stop the abuses and mushrooming of human rights violation and talk on the recent incidents that took place in State and said that these incidents were very painful which should not have happened. These happened due to ignorance, superstition, rumour, lack of proper education and awareness.

Dr Parashmoni Sinha further appealed to the State government to introduce human rights education in the school curriculum for Class VI to Class X and added that the Odisha government had decided to introduce human rights education subjects as part of the textbooks for Class VI to Class X in the form of story, essay and poem. Moreover, Orissa has become the first State in India to introduce human rights education in school curriculum. Earlier, while giving the welcome speech, Goutam Sarkar stressed the need to create awareness among the people on their rights and duties towards the society.
