LAKHIMPUR: In the long run, the people of Lakhimpur are about to get relief from the prolonged anomalies caused by the deplorable conditions of PWD roads of the district. It is going to happen on account of the beginning of construction works of ten dilapidated roads under the jurisdiction of North Lakhimpur Municipal Board and other areas under the No. 111 Lakhimpur Legislative Assembly Constituency. Utpal Dutta, the MLA of the constituency inaugurated the construction work of these PWD roads on Saturday. They are the Gariajan-Bogolijan Road, Daily Market-ASTC Bus Station Road, North Lakhimpur Railway Station connecting road, Kabarstan Road, Chaporigaon Road, NH-15-Bamun Dalani Road, Mautarsuk-Gharmora Road, Garehaga Gharmara Road and Khagen Gogoi Road.

In addition to these 10 roads, the construction of other 29 roads, total 39, of the district will begin soon. The MLA informed this to Lakhimpur media persons addressing a press meet at North Lakhimpur Circuit House. A fund of over 32 crore was allotted for implementing the construction works of these roads. He further informed that the repairing of the North Lakhimpur-Kamalabari Road and Azad Panigaon Road would begin very soon. He stated that the tender process was already completed and the people of the concerned area would get the good news within next three days regarding the construction of these two crucial roads.

In the press meet, the MLA sharply criticised PWD minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for his statement made against him in a meeting held for the campaign of Panchayat Election. In the meeting, the minister complained that Utpal Dutta failed to implement a fund of Rs. 50 crore allotted by the State Government for the development of dilapidated roads of Lakhimpur LAC.

Regarding the statement, the MLA said that Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement was completely baseless. “Proposals worth rupees of 105 crore were submitted to the Government through the PWD office of Lakhimpur for the development of dilapidated roads. Though the Minister concerned at first promised me to sanction Rs. 50 crore against those proposals, later he sanctioned only a fund of Rs. 32 crore only,” he alleged.
