Coronavirus pandemic: Silchar moves to set up more quarantine centres

Special CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR: With the detection of new cases of coronavirus in Cachar, the district administration is in search of more quarantine centres. Today, the Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli, along with Deputy Speaker, Aminul Haque Laskar, and SP Manabendra Debroy visited Don Bosco School at Ramnagar and saw the various existing facilities to be made available to the patients to be quarantined. Also present was Father Nelson Joseph, Rector of the School. The Deputy Commissioner also visited a madrassa in the area. In fact, in addition to quarantine zones, additional containment zones are also being created in hotels. Residents around hotels are objecting to convert them in containment zones. They plead for accommodation of migrant people at places outside the town where a sense of fear has gripped the people.

On Tuesday, two persons of Karimganj, Sahinul Haque and Samsul Alam who were staying at a complex at Sonai Road were found to be positive cases and admitted in SMCH. The area covering Nova complex, R B Hardware and a colony of people living in rental basis was sealed by the administration. Containment zones have been created at the block levels also. Presently, as informed by the administration, quarantine centres exist at SMCH, Chhotodudhpatil, Chitiabichiya, NATRIP and Civil Hospital.

Of relief is that in Cachar, despite high number of positive cases, till date there has been no death from coronavirus. The only casualty was due to cancer and other complications in the body though the patient from Hailakandi had COVID-19 symptoms. But, the exodus of migrants from other states has put the administration and the health department in great state of anxiety. It is equally true there is no let up in preparedness to tackle the mounting problem.
