LAKHIMPUR: The pandemic scenario is worsening in Lakhimpur district day-by- day. The number of COVID-19 patients in the district has been spiking alarmingly.

A total of 100 patients were detected on Monday, while the detection of such patients was 142 on Tuesday, 115 on Wednesday and 383 on Thursday. On Thursday, 96 patients were found positive for coronavirus infection through Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while remaining 287 patients were detected as per real time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (rRT-PCR) Test result. According to the report found from District Health Department, the rRT-PCR test of the swab samples of these 287 people of the district had been pending in Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh from August 27 and their results were reported on Thursday.

On the other hand, a total of 75 people of the district were tested positive on Friday till the time of filing of this report. Of them, 31 patients were detected through RAT while 44 patients were found positive through rRT-PCR Test. With these newly-detected patients, the number of total COVID-19 cases spiked to 4,085 on the day. Out of them, 2,533 patients have been discharged while 1,552 are active cases.
