MANGALDAI: Dakshin Borsojai Moidam Durga Puja Committee at Lalmati in Guwahati, with a view to inspire and encourage the upcoming progressive farmers of the State, felicitated national award for Best Female Farmer recipient ‘Pothar Konya’ Nabanita Das on the auspicious day of Maha Vijayadashami.

In presence of a large number of devotees and members of the Puja committee, president of the Puja committee, Akhil Goswami and member Prafulla Talukdar felicitated Nabanita Das with a phulam Bihuwan, a set of mekhela sador made of Muga silk, several books and a letter of citation.

The soft-spoken female agri-entrepreneur of village Potiya Gaon in Jorhat had resigned from her government job only to get involved with agriculture farming. Acknowledging the felicitation, Nabanita Das said that the soil of Assam was the gift of God and the youth must take up agriculture as a means of livelihood to make Assam really a ‘Sonar Asom’.

“I am fortunate to visit different States and countries, including Vietnam. But I have not found such a fertile soil as in Assam. It is very unfortunate that the youths of the State are running after petty government jobs ignoring agriculture farming. It is only agriculture farming which may transform the entire State into the number one State in the country,” said Nabanita. She also appreciated the unique initiative of the Dakshin Borsojai Moidam Durga Puja Committee and hoped that all the Puja committees and Bihu committees of the State would arrange for such felicitation function to boost the morale of the agriculture farmers who are mostly been ignored. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Central Western Range (CWR) of Assam Police, Brajenjit Singha, upcoming avian entrepreneur Kushal Deka and president of Mangaldai Media Circle, Hitesh Hazarika also took part in the function.
