MANGALDAI: "Darrang district, for the first time in the State, will arrange a model 'people's quarantine centre' which will be managed smoothly with voluntary contribution from kind-hearted people. Our fight is not against the ailing, but against the dreaded virus and with the smooth and well management of this quarantine centre, the people will be able to convey their solidarity to the COVID-19 patients as well as inspire the suspected infected persons to gather moral strength, stability and courage," said Darrang Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah, while talking to The Sentinel on Monday evening.

"The Darrang district administration is fully prepared to continue its fight against the dreaded coronavirus and for this purpose a total of 1,152 beds have been made available in total 15 quarantine centres of the district," he added. Of these 15 quarantine centres, one each has been managed by the units of the army at Chapai and the CoBRA at Dalgaon in the district.

In view of the non-availability of adequate number of beds, Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah, immediately after taking over charge few days back, had made a hearty appeal to all sections of the society to extend all help and cooperation and a section of people immediately responded to the appeal with a total of 60 beds. On the other hand, a Guwahati-based businessman of repute, Gajen Kalita offered 10 bio toilets at an approximate value of Rs 3,50,000.

"A section of ignorant persons has reportedly been escaping from the quarantine centres and this illegal practice will surely brought trouble for the entire society. However, with the assistance of the police and medical team, these trouble mongers have been apprehended immediately. It is high time that the members of the civil society, irrespective to their religion, caste and language, should get united in creating awareness about COVID-19 to ensure the safety and security of society," said Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah while making an appeal to people to cooperate with the administration in this unprecedented hour of crisis.
