DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli briefs media on election preparedness

SILCHAR: Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli held a press briefing with the media persons at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner Cachar on Saturday.

While addressing the media persons present in the meeting, Jalli said, "Assembly elections will be held in the second phase on April 1 in Cachar district. An official notification will be issued on March 5. With the announcement of the Election Commission of India, the code of conduct has been enforced in the district since Friday."

"Nomination papers can be submitted till March 12 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on March 15, the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers is March 17. Voting will take place on April 1. The counting will take place on May 2," she added.

Jalli further stated that this time the total number of polling stations in the Cachar District is 1834. Last time there were 1461 numbers of polling stations in the district.

The number of polling stations has been increased as the polls will be held in accordance with the COVID protocol. There are 32 numbers of critical polling stations in the district. The total number of voters is 12,57,459. A total of 23 cells have already been formed for conducting assembly election in seven assembly constituencies of the district for smooth conduct of elections.

It is pertinent to mention here that for the first time postal ballot will be available this year for the persons with disability, the sick and senior citizens over the age of 80, essential service workers and COVID patients. The administration's helpline number is 1950, which will be open 24 hours a day and a toll free number 18003453516 will also be available for contact.

This time the selection process must strictly adhere to the COVID protocol. Only two persons can enter the room of the Returning Officer while submitting nomination papers. Social media will be closely monitored during the election. For this, every political party and candidate has to abide by the electoral code of conduct in addition to this 52 grounds have been identified for public meetings in the district. It will be mandatory to wear a face mask and maintain physical distance at election rallies and other gatherings.

Cachar Additional Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, Khaleda Sultana Ahmed and Election Officer Navanita Hazarika presented relevant information at the press conference.
