SARUPATHAR: On August 26, five innocent drivers were killed by unidentified miscreants in Dima Hasao district under Diyangmukh police station. Dhansiri Motor Workers' Union of Dhansiri subdivision offered prayers and homage to the departed souls of the drivers and lit an earthen lamp. The union also called a 24-hour chakka bandh across the State of Assam and urged all the drivers to make the bandh a success.

At the same time, the union appealed to the Assam Government that the unidentified miscreants should be punished for the crime. Such brutality has no place in today's civilized world. The killing of innocent drivers can never be justified, said the union. The union also said that the police team had to investigate the incident properly.
