DHUBRI: Around 732 polling parties left for their polling stations along with EVMs and VVPATs, accompanied by one constable and one home guard attached to each of the teams of polling officials on Monday. This was informed by Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum- Model Code of Conduct Officer, Animesh Talukdar while briefing the media persons at the DC conference hall on Monday afternoon.

Talukdar, flanked by Circle Officer (attached), Mrigakshi Das, and District Information and Public Relation Officer (in-charge), Partha Pratim Barman, informed that in the Dhubri Election District, there were 70 civil sector officers and an equal number of police sector officers who had been engaged to monitor the polls and ensure free, fair and peaceful poll.

While briefing, Talukdar informed that as surveyed, there were 2,500 Persons with Disability (PwD) voters in the three assembly segments under the Dhubri Election District. “Since every person with disability has already been identified, our officials will bring them to polling station on wheelchairs from their homes and they will be allowed to vote at the earliest without any delay,” Talukdar informed.

Replying to a question by media, Talukdar said that there were nearly 2 per cent new voters this time in the three assembly segments of Dhubri Election District.

All arrangements have also been completed to hold polls in the lone polling station at Bhogdanga which falls beyond the barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Dhubri district, Talukdar informed. Talukdar also informed that a high-level meeting with BSF officials was held and they were requested to relax the restriction for smooth movement of polling officials. The BSF officials assured to comply with the request.
