Dibrugarh University suspends faculty Dhrubajit Chowdhury on criminal charges

DIBRUGARH : Dibrugarh University (DU) authority, on the basis of the enquiry committee's report, has 'placed Assistant Prof. Dhrubajit Chowdhury of Mathematics Department under suspension until further order with effect from the date of detention from July 2 by the Dibrugarh Police, as his arrest and detention exceeds 48 hours in view of the proceeding on criminal charges'.

Prof. Chowdhury was arrested by police on charges of uploading obscene video in his personal site and presently is under jail custody. Police recovered his camera, laptop, CDs along with other documents from his Amolapatty rented house. Investigation is on.

The office order issued by the Registrar, DU further stated, "While under suspension, Dhrubajit Chowdhury will be subject to all rules as per the DU Teachers' Service conditions Ordinance, 1974 (amended up to 31.12.2010) and any other rules as applicable."

Meanwhile, DU AASU unit lodged an FIR against all those groups who were posting some malicious posts on Facebook and other social media against DU and students of the Mathematics Department. The DU AASU unit, while urging the authorities concerned to take appropriate action against all those who were not only bent on maligning the reputation of DU but were also engaged in character assassination of students and faculties, cautioned that the DU AASU unit would not sit idle if the miscreants continued with their nasty campaign.
