Dillai Police foils bid to smuggle a stolen Maruti Swift Dzire car near Assam-Nagaland Border

Bokajan: In a major crackdown, the Dillai Police foiled a bid to smuggle a stolen Maruti Swift Dzire car in a routine checkpoint over NH 36 along Assam-Nagaland border in East Karbi Anglong.

As reported, the police personnel attached to the check post intercepted the vehicle heading towards Dimapur, Nagaland for regular inspection as the number plate seemed dubious. On cross verifying it was found that the documents were doctored and the registration number has been tempered. Later, it was known that the vehicle had been lifted from Jaipur in Rajasthan and was bound for sale in Dimapur. Three persons viz. Ghanashyam Tanwar, Jaiprakash Paswan, Sunil Kr Paswan has been arrested along with the stolen vehicle.

Meanwhile, based on the revelations of the arrested trio, the police laid a trap in the Purna Lahorijan area of Assam-Nagaland interstate border and successfully arrested the fourth accomplice Jiten Kr Bhagat who came to receive the vehicle for onward sale into Nagaland. The fifth offender who was suppose to buy the vehicle for a whooping 2 Lakh Rupees is still at large.

"The prime accused Ghanashyam Tanwar of Rajasthan is a cab driver by profession and has frequented the road of Northeast. He reportedly met the fourth offender Jiten Kr Bhagat at a hotel in Jaipur, Rajasthan who also happens to be a lorry driver by profession. The duo accordingly hatched plans to make some quick bucks in the inter-state car-jacking trade taking advantage of the poor cross-border crime combating machinery," the investigating officer said.
