Dima Hasao Congress demands implementation of Article 244(A) of the Constitution of India

Haflong: The Dima Hasao Congress committee, while welcoming the Central government’s decision for formation of Union Territories, appealed to all the leaders of both Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong to move the Central government for the implementation of Article 244(A) of the Constitution of India.

Dima Hasao Congress president Nirmal Langthasa, in a press meet held at Rajiv Bhavan on Tuesday, said since the BJP had the majority, it was the right time for all the MLAs and MP from Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong to move the Central government for implementation of Article 244(A) which is the long-pending demand of the people of the twin hill districts of the State. He said, “People are celebrating the formation new UTs for J&K and Ladakh, we can also celebrate if Article 244(A) is implemented.”

Langthasa said that people had given majority mandate to the BJP, therefore it was very easy for the BJP-led government to implement Article 244(A) in no time. Further, he argued that if Article 370 could be scraped, what about Article 371? As there was apprehension among the people of both the hill districts, the leaders of both Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong should come forward to clear their stand and move for the implementation of Article 244(A) immediately.
