 Dr Bhubaneswar Deka to receive Dr Moidul Islam Borah memorial literary award

GAURISAGAR: In fond memory of Dr Moidul Islam Borah, a resident of Sivasagar district, the first Assamese PhD holder from England, former Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) president of Jorhat session (1940) and Vice-Chancellor (i/c) of Dhaka University, a literary award is conferred every year by Arunudoi Xahitya Xabha and Dr Moidul Islam Bora Smriti Raksha Samiti. This year, the award will be conferred on Dr Bhubaneswar Deka. This was decided in a joint meeting of the two organizations held recently.

A science graduate, Dr Deka took his master’s degree in Arts. He served as the founder Principal of Vidybharati College. He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy degree for his research on Assamese jikir and jari. Notably, Dr Deka was the first Ph.D holder for research on jikir and jari.
