Dr Bhupen Hazarika is an Immense Inspiration through his Songs

KOKRAJHAR: Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust, in association with Bijni College, has organized ‘Samannoy Divas’ to celebrate the 93rd birth anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika with a two-day long programme on September 7 and September 8 in the premises of Bijni College.

As part of the celebration, on the first day a cultural rally was organized with the participation of cultural troupes from various communities, students and teachers of educational institutions, NGOs, officials and members of Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust, and the public, exhibiting the life and works of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika at Bijni town, followed by an open meeting and a cultural programme.

Attending as the chief guest, Media Adviser to the Chief Minister of Assam, Hrishikesh Goswami recounted the contribution of Dr Bhupen Hazarika to social justice, human values and a new generation of music and paid his profound homage to the immortal soul.

“He is an immense inspiration through his songs, particularly during a communal crisis. He had a unique way of inspiring the masses. His simple lyrics touched the common men,” he said.

Further, stressing the importance of peace and harmony for all-round development, he called upon the gathering to recollect the works done by Dr Hazarika for the society and to apply it for sensitizing the young generation for the betterment of the society. He also enthralled the gathering with his soulful presentation of Bhupen Hazarika’s songs.

During the programme, distinguished writer Anuradha Sarma Pujari released the magazine titled Bhupendra Jyoti and journalist Prashanta Rajguru released the books Amiya Purux and Kabita Mala respectively.

They highlighted the life and works of Dr Hazarika as a singer, composer, lyricist, cine producer, writer, editor, motivator, politician and as the unifying force of the divergent ethnic groups of Northeast India while addressing the gathering.

In the programme, a number of artists from various parts of the State took part in the cultural programme and the ‘Gaurang Brahmaputra Xomannoy Award, 2019’ was given to renowned sculptor Janak Jhankar Narzary by Hrishikesh Goswami.

The programme, which was held under the chairmanship of MLA Kamalsing Narzary, was also attended by Dr Mangalsing Hazowary, chairman of Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust and other dignitaries.
