JORHAT: Dr RC Boruah, with a very humble background from Galeki village, Nazira in Sivasagar district joined RRL Jorhat as a Ph.D. student after completing his fresh masters student in the year 1976. Since then he was associated with the institute and became the only "Outstanding Scientist" of CSIR-NEIST family in the year 2010 and took the Acting Directorship, CSIR-NEIST in the year 2013.

He got superannuated from the service in the year 2015 and has been associated with the institute for the last 5 years. Dr G. Narahari Sastry, Director in presence of all the scientists and staff has applauded the yeomen services he rendered to organic chemistry nationally as well as his involvement as the leader of CSIR-NEIST of the institute on Wednesday.

Due to his extraordinary R&D works in Medicinal Chemistry, Dr Boruah rose to a position of Outstanding Scientist of CSIR and became the Acting Director of CSIR-NEIST during 2012-13. During his career, Dr Boruah, published more than one hundred research papers of international repute, and guided 16 Ph.D. students. He has also been conferred with several national and state honours such as CRSI Bronze Medal, Fellow of National Academy and many others.

During a felicitation program, Dr G. Narahari Sastry mentioned that due to involvement Dr Boruah in R&D, management and other institutional activities have helped this institute to rise into a greater height. All the scientists paid rich tributes to his contributions in several areas, besides research. A plantation program was also been arranged in his honour to keep his memory alive in this institute, stated a press release.
