Elephant Herd invades paddy field; destroy crops in Nagaon

Samuguri: In an incident of man-elephant conflict at Samuguri’s Hahchora area, a herd of at least 10-12 elephants invaded huge bighas of paddy field land on Thursday night.

Reportedly, the herd had been constantly visiting the areas since past one week and have destroyed almost the entire area of the paddy lands and crops.

Eyewitness fearing over their life had informed the matter to the forest officials.

Meanwhile, forest officials had reached the spot and have been chasing away the elephant herd back to the forest area with blank gunshots. Yet the locals are still living with a fear of the heard coming back to the village and to attack them again.

It is to be noted that in order to protect the elephant herd from getting hit by a running trains near Chaparmukh-Silghat Railway stations, several rounds of blank gun shots were fired in the air by the forest officials.
