BAKSA: Severe soil erosion by the River Barnodi (the river is known as Puthimari in downstream) has wreaked havoc in many villages under Tamulpur subdivision in Baksa district. Soil erosion is posing a serious threat to agricultural land and houses in the villages Guwabari, No 1 Bagrikhui , Hastinapur, Orangajuli, No. 2 Pipleni, Kalcheni along with many riverine villages.

Due to heavy rainfall in the past few days, erosion has taken a serious turn in several villages under Nagrijuli Development Block in Tamulpur subdivision in the district of Baksa. A number of houses have been washed away by the overflowing water of the River Barnodi. The local people have expressed apprehension that if erosion continues in the same rate, several bighas of agricultural land and many houses of poor farmers' families, which are only 10-20 metres away from the riverbank, are likely to go into the womb of the River Barnodi.
