MANGALDAI: Synchronizing with the countrywide celebration of Police Commemoration Day, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday inaugurated the newly-constructed building of Mangaldai Police Station in Darrang district. He also offered floral wreath in memory of the ‘Men in Khaki’ who offered their supreme sacrifice while serving for the country and its people.

Accompanied by Agriculture and Veterinary Minister Atul Bora, parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, legislator Guru Jyoti Das, Additional Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, DGP Kula Dhar Saikia, chairman of Assam Police Housing Corporation AK Jha and DIG of CWR Brajenjit Singha, the Chief Minister dedicated the newly-constructed building to the people of Mangaldai with the hope that this building with all the amenities and facilities, particularly for women and children, would be able to strengthen the bond between the police and the common people.

“Following the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while taking part in the All India DGP’s conference in Guwahati in 2015 to make the police smart with all the infrastructure, the State Government has instituted the ‘Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI)’ and covered a total of 73 police stations of the State in the first phase for construction of new building. I hope that the new building will be able to boost up the moral of the police force where the women and children will feel more comfortable and secure,” said Chief Minister Sonowal while addressing the inaugural function anchored by eminent artiste Pranjal Sarma.

“It is the need of the hour that all ranks of police should maintain the sanctity and honour of the uniform to make the police more people-friendly,” he added. He also sought all cooperation from all sections of the society in making Assam totally free from terrorism or insurgency, pollution and from foreigners. “Corruption is the dreaded disease of the society and every citizen must take the pledge to fight against this disease. It is also a matter of serious concern that violation of the rules of the road has been increasing rapidly taking many a lives,” said Chief Minister Sonowal while making an open appeal to all sections of the society to follow the rule of the roads strictly.

Agriculture and Veterinary Minister Atul Bora, Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das and Director General of Police, Kula Dhar Saikia also addressed the inaugural function while Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan earlier accorded a hearty welcome to all the guests in his welcome address and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Border) Anita Hazarika offered the vote of thanks.

The new building has been constructed at the approximate cost of Rs. 1.77 crore. This new building has replaced the Assam-type building constructed during the early days of the British rule.
