LAKHIMPUR: The fear of community transmission looms large in Lakhimpur district following the detection of a total of 37 COVID-19 patients on Friday. In this regard, the possibility of the pandemic situation deteriorating futher unless the people of the district remain alert and the district administration as well as the Health Department enforce strict measures to contain the pandemic.

In view of the increasing number of the COVID-19 cases and to arrest the spread of the pandemic and to secure the public health, the district administration has declared containment zones under North Lakhimpur subdivision. One of them is the residential areas of Sunu Baruah and his wife Abha Baruah and another COVID -19 patient named Bishmita Baruah Hazarika at Bormuriya Tiniali near North Lakhimpur town. Notably, Abha Baruah came in contact with one Bhagyashri Saikia of Ward No. 5 of North Lakhimpur town who tested positive on July 27 after she came back from Guwahati. Abha Baruah tested positive for coronavirus on July 3. On Friday, 11 more persons who came in contact with her, were detected positive for COVID-19.

The district administration has declared Chamuagaon village under Naoboicha Revenue Circle too as containment zone, where 13 persons were detected positive for COVID-19. These persons came in contact with Bhupen Saikia, son of Gopal Saikia, who tested positive in Dhemaji on July 5. Bhupen Saikia is an employee at Vishal Mega Mart in Dhemaji and he had come home to take local medicines.

In addition to these two places, the district administration has declared the residential areas of Plabita Dutta and Binita Tamuli under Ward No. 12 as containment zones. They also came in contact with Abha Baruah. Similarly, the residence of Jasoda Basfor under Railway Colony, Ward No. 2 has also been declared as containment zone. She is the safai karmi of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital and she had tested positive on Friday.
