Female Journalist of an Assamese Daily allegedly molested in Night Super Bus

Guwahati: A female journalist of a daily Assamese paper allegedly molested in a night super bus on Wednesday evening.

As per reports, both the victim and the alleged molester Rahul Khatoniar had boarded the same bus from Guwahati ISBT to Duliajan.

Later, the victim was allegedly molested by the above mentioned accused when the bus operators halted for dinner at a Dhaba somewhere in the middle of Nagaon- Golaghat border.

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital in this regard, an officer in charge, Dergaon Police Station, said, “The victim woman had submitted a written complaint at Dergaon Police Station at around 3 am, as per her statement, the accused had tried to molest her while the bus operators halted for dinner at a Dhaba. Based on the FIR, a case has been registered against the accused of his alleged intent to outrage her modesty.”

Meanwhile, the accused Rahul Khatoniar has been arrested by Dergaon Police.

Further police investigation is on.

A 10-year-old girl student was reportedly molested by a 20-year-old youth at Naoghat along the banks of river Dhansiri in East Karbi Anglong.

As reported, the victim girl was returning from school when the accused waylaid and dragged her into a nearby grove along the road. The accused reportedly tried to molest the victim girl but she somehow managed to give the accused a slip and run for life. The accused had also allegedly threatened the victim of dire consequences if she happens to report the matter to anyone.

Meanwhile, the news of attempted rape spread like wildfire in the victim’s locality and residents who took up cudgels for the victim, gheraoed the house of accused and severely manhandled him before handing over to police.

The accused have been identified as Deb Tati(20) of Bokajan. A case under section 354 (A) IPC R/W Section 14 of POCSO Act has been registered against the accused.

It may be mentioned that killing incident in the state had made a sudden rise in the last few months.

In one kind of incident near Assam Nagaland border, a gang of 6-7 armed robbers man dressed in Army fatigues and armed with AK 47 rifle and pistol stormed in the residence of Moolsingh Rathore and attempted robbery by holding the businessman’s wife, son and daughter-in-law at gunpoint.

As per police report, the businessman who was returning home received a distress call from his son and rushed to the spot to confront the gang of armed assailants who had robbed of valuables including jewellery and cash from his residence.

Businessman Rathore was shot multiple times from point-blank range and he succumbed to injuries on reaching the hospital following excessive bleeding. One of his acquaintance also received bullet injury however his condition is stated to be out of danger.
