TINSUKIA: Following incessant rain in catchment areas, flood scenario is grim in Tinsukia district with three revenue circles - Tinsukia, Doomdooma and Sadiya being badly affected. Water level is rising in all tributaries of the Brahmaputra inundating newer areas.

Under Tinsukia revenue circle, three relief camps were opened on Thursday. In Dhelaghat LP school, 45 families with 150 inmates have been accommodated, the other two relief camps are Khamti Guwali and Nutan Rangagora LP School where 30 families with 70 inmates and 3 families with 18 inmates respectively have been lodged. In Guijan, both Police Station and Forest Range office are under knee-deep water. The Dibru-Saikhowa National Park is under threat as major portion of the park is facing fury of the flood. The animals reportedly have been moving to highlands and chapories.

In Sadiya sub-division, only 5 villages are partially under flood water with 18 number of relief camps having been proposed, according to official information. One bamboo bridge over Ghormora river, connecting Jia village, Ghormorachapori etc have been washed away on Wednesday, disconnecting many villagers from mainland. One temporary boat has been arranged by the administration for transportation of the villagers. Erosion is reported in Bishnupur Pahukhuwa village. A flood control room has been set up at SDO (C) office.

Under Doomdooma revenue circle as many as 39 villages have been affected. The villagers preferred to stay back at inundated homes instead of relief camps as thieves barge into empty houses after dusk. It was the back water of Dholla and Dangori river that created havoc in all the affected areas as level of Brahmaputra has risen.
