LAKHIMPUR: A renowned non-governmental organization, Women Development Center organized a three-day long flood relief distribution programme and health camp in Lakhimpur district.

The NGO organized the emergency flood relief distribution programme and the medical relief camp with the support of Sneha Charitable Trust in joint collaboration with North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS) under the management of Bhagyawati Bhuyan, the Project Director of WDC, on behalf of director Sister Betsy.

The programmes started on September 6 at Doolahat and Sonapur Gaon Panchayats under Naoboicha Revenue circle where a sudden wave of flood caused by River Singara ravaged an extensive area on August 14. The NGO will continue the flood relief distribution programme in Dhemaji district from September 10 to September 20.

The medical camp was initiated with a view to addressing health issues pertaining to water-borne diseases and epidemic threats after flood. A total of 105 individuals received medical services with free of cost medicines and health check-ups.

On the other hand, rice (20 kg per household), 1 litre mustard oil, 2 kg dal, 1kg salt, 2 kg potato, 1 kg onion, 1 kg Surf, water filter, 1 bucket with mug, one bottle of phenyl, a piece of soap and a packet of bleaching powder were given to a total of 300 flood-affected families of the area during the relief distribution programme. Among them, 30 families living at FC grant, Dikhpukhuri and Doolahat under Nowboicha Block, who were affected with major damages caused by the flood, were given a bundle of galvanized sheets with a tarpaulin.

Father Varghese, the director of NEDSSS, took part in the flood-relief distribution programme while Dr. Prasanjit Devnath, Dr. John Pando and Sister Mini Abraham extended their services to the needy people.
