JORHAT: The flood situation continues to be grim in several places of Jorhat district. Holmora under Jorhat West Revenue Circle, Teok and Titabor Revenue Circle are the most affected.

In the West Jorhat Revenue Circle, a total of 20 villages comprising around 6,000 people are still under water. On May 22, the Bhogdoi embankment was breached and around 150 metres of the embankment was washed away. Water from the river has entered vast area of the paddy fields. The affected people have blamed the Jorhat Division of Water Resource Department, Government of Assam, for its negligence and below standard works.

In the past one-and-half month, water through the breached portion entered the Holmora area for the four consecutive time. Several houses are still under water since Monday and even the Malao-Holmora road is under water. The district administration is allegedly yet to distribute relief materials and take appropriate measures. The people have slammed the Deputy Commissioner for not taking stock of the situation and the flood-affected people, said Kolai Das, one of the flood victims from Randhonijan area. Moreover, vast areas of paddy fields under Titabor subdivision and areas like Mudoijaan and Jhajimukh have been inundated. The Veterinary and Medical departments have decided to hold camps in the affected areas from Wednesday and distribute medicines for both humans and domestic animals.
