Flood situation remains grim in Bongaigaon for three-days long continuous heavy showers

Bongaigaon: After being lashed out by heavy showers continuously for three days, Bongaigaon district is now suffering the obvious consequences as flood situation has again become grim which was on an improving trend 3 days back. Though the weather today is seen little improved here but, heavy to moderate random rainfall is still prevailing and bringing in stagnation to the flood scenario.

The rainy weather persisting in the district has reversed the improving trend of flood. The water level of one of the main water bodies of the district Aie-Manas is though on a falling trend now but flowing at 39.14 m. which is still above danger level of 38.84m. and bringing in troubles to nearby villages. Water level of rivers Aie and Brahmaputra is below danger level but the latter is showing a rising trend.

Due to excessive rains in past three days, rivers overflowed and have now caused havoc to again several numbers of villages in the district. A similar rise is seen in terms of flood-affected villages of all the revenue circles than yesterday. As per today’s flood report of DDMA, the flood-affected number of villages under Srijangram Revenue Circle has now mounted to 81, Bijni-44, Boitamari-43, Dangtol-12 and Bongaigaon-6 as well. District administration has immediately put into place rescue and relief operations at a large scale in all these flood-affected revenue circles. Bongaigaon district and North Salmara subdivision administration has made operational large relief operations to extend all possible relief measures. Gratuity relief items to people and fodder for animals are being provided to the flood-affected villages through the relief camps and centres. At present there are total 28 relief camps and 8 relief centres that are round the clock providing gratuity relief items and other assistance to a total number of 15, 731 stranded inmates. So far now during last 24 hours, 378.244 qtls. of rice, 72.714 qtls. of dal, 21.8136 qtls. of salt, 1047 ltrs. of mustard oil, along with other essential items like gur, milk, biscuits, ORS, bleaching powder etc. are being distributed as gratuity relief. Besides, total 24 medical teams are visiting the affected areas and attending the relief camp inmates and other flood-affected people with medical aids and services.

Bongaigaon DC Adil Khan along with MLA and SDO Civil visited the flood and erosion affected areas of Borjana, Piradhara Panchayats and monitored and pressed essential service into place. Besides, all concerned government officials are making constant rounds to the flood-affected areas to monitor preventive, rescue and relief measures, stated a press release.
