Flood water submerges several villages in Udalguri district

TANGLA: The unprecedented rainfall for the past couple of days has caused severe flooding and continued to wreck havoc in several places of Udalguri and neighboring Darrang district, including parts of Khoirabari, Kalaigaon, Tangla,Udalguri, Mazbat.

According to reports, the unprecedented rainfall has raised the water level of Noa River in Kalaigaon which has also breached parts of Mangaldai-Bhutiachang State Highway No. 4. Meanwhile, police and administrative officials have jumped into action and reviewed the flood scenario in the district and also imposed restrictions in movement of private and commercial vehicles coming from Mangaldoi and Kalaigaon side in Mangaldai-Bhutiachang SH-4 in view of safety of the citizens.

The rising water levels have also breached an earthen embankment in Garubandha-Bishnupur area of Darrang district on Sunday causing immense hardship to the villagers. The personnel of Fire and Emergency Services, Kalaigaon also rescued one family from Singimari village under Kalaigaon revenue circle on Monday.

Meanwhile, Bhergaon SDO (C) Dipak Bhuyan inspected the flood situation in Khoirabari area where the overflowing water of Mora Suklai River and Dimila River caused flooding of villages while Mazbat Revenue Circle Officer, Utpal Kumar Deka inspected the flood-affected villages under Mazbat Revenue Circle on Monday.
