Floods worsen in Mangaldai as the water level of the Brahmaputra flowing above danger level

MANGALDAI: The incessant rains over the last few days have resulted in raising of the water level of the Brahmaputra and all its tributaries flowing up to the danger level. According to the reports of the District Disaster Management authority on Friday, over forty-nine thousand people and one thousand fifty five hectares of agricultural land area of about sixty six villages under four revenue circles of the district have been effected by the first wave of flood in the district. Maximum of thirty-eight villages under Dalgaon revenue circle followed by sixteen villages under Pathorighat circle are among the submerged areas. Reports of breach of several embankments including the left side embankment of Dhansiri river at village Ghiladhari under Dalgaon revenue circle has been received. Breach of earthen road at village Besimari under the same revenue circle has also been reported. Flood water from Brahmaputra, Dhansiri and Pachnoi submerging several areas of the Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve has been reported. However, setting up of any flood relief camp or distribution of any relief goods from the the district administration has not been reported till filing of the report.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass on Friday held a meeting with the officials of the relevant departments to review the flood situation and necessary possible measures to combat it. The administration reportedly appointed fifty-six sector officers covering all the seventy-five GPs of the district for monitoring of the situation and take action.
