Forest Man of India Jadav Payeng Misinterpreted in Text Books

Jadav Payeng, the forest man of India and also a forest department worker is misinterpreted in the textbooks of schools in Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Education and the matter has been taken up seriously by the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

A person who made his own identity by planting and tendering trees on a sandbar of the Brahmaputra River and turned it into a forest over the years, Jadav Payeng is a much known and loved name in the state today. But lately, an incident has come into light concerning Payeng wherein it is found that the school textbooks of the Maharashtra state have provided wrong information on the nature lover.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, on noticing the erroneous" description of 'Forest Man of India' Jadav Payeng, has decided to write to the Maharashtra government seeking an immediate correction of the information provided in the texts. It is seen that the textbook has mentioned Jadav Payeng as a member of a nomadic tribe which is certainly a wrong information about him.

After talking to the ethnic Mising community representatives, the chief minister assured them that he would write to the Maharashtra government to register Assam's reservation. Notably, paying belongs to the missing tribe and not a nomadic tribe.
