Kokrajhar: Former EM of erstwhile Bodoland Autonomous Council (BAC) and working president of BJSM, Daorao Dekhreb Narzary on Thursday vehemently opposed the idea of establishment of Islamic Cultural Project and Research Centre proposed by the UPPL and said it could pose a threat to tribal people in the near future.

In a statement, Daorao Dekhreb Narzary said that the United People’s Party –Liberal (UPPL) had made an agreement with some sections of minority leaders and promised them to establish Islamic Cultural Project and Research Centre; establish BTR Minority Development Board and Corporation; arrange facilities for education through Articles 29 and 30 of the Indian Constitution and provide all kind of facilities to Haj pilgrims and establish a highly modern Haj Bhavan, which would be a serious threat to tribal people.

“It appears that UPPL is desperate to come to power by hook or by crook in order to enjoy the fruits of BTC. Therefore, they are going all out to win over the Muslim voters by promising establishment of Islamic Research Centre in BTC but they have forgotten the fact that by these promises to the Muslims they have squarely undermined the aspirations of the Bodo people in particular and the tribal communities in general,” he said.

“Why is the UPPL so interested to establish an Islamic Cultural Project and Research Centre in BTC? They should clarify their stand in the matter,” he said.

Narzary said UPPL had revealed its ugly face by these promises. He said the mindset of UPPL was detrimental to the Bodo community and other tribal communities.
