JOYSAGAR: Large-scale financial anomalies have been alleged in the Simaluguri Town Committee (STC) in recent times. Senior citizens and local organization leaders have alleged that some of the town committee members, along with some corrupt office bearers of the STC, misused funds of the town committee. Fund amounting to about Rs 28 lakh was provided during the 2016-17 financial year from the State Town and Country Planning Department but this money was allegedly misappropriated in the name of repair and purchasing spare parts of the STC vehicles. A fake account has also been identified for cleanliness and construction of public dustbins, sources informed.

Moreover, some corrupt officials and ward members of the STC are allegedly illegally issuing trade licenses and allotting daily market shops under STC to local businessmen. Another serious allegation is that contract orders have been issued to firms which actually do not exist. Fake documents are made to get the contracts for development works under the STC. Most of the work done is of poor standard while the fund is pocketed by the corrupt officials and members.
