JORHAT, MAY 19: "Jihadi or fundamentalist organizations will be there in a place like Assam where there is hunger and sense of insecurity, even if we take 1951 till 1971 as cut-off year for infiltrators who entered the State of Assam," said Prasanta Rajguru, editor of Dainik Asom, during his address at a Nagarik Sabha organized by Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which was presided over by AGP president and Minister Atul Bora, at Chitralekha Bhavan on Saturday.

The Nagarik Sabha was attended by heavy weights from the AGP, AASU and other organizations like Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Keshab Mahanta, Prodip Hazarika, Renupoma Rajkhowa, Bhoben Bharali, Dr Kamala Kalita and Utpol Baruah, editor of Dainik Janambhumi, Prafulla Rajguru, educationist and journalist and advocate Bhabo Goswami. They discussed the pros and cons following amendment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

"In Assam the population rate is increasing, not due to migration but due to high birth rate among the immigrant families. When we reach the sixth generation, they reach the ninth generation. AGP is the only party for the indigenous people of Assam. The BJP has hurt the sentiments of the Assamese people and has not kept any of its poll promises," said Prasanta Rajguru.
