MANGALDAI: Following the intensified operation against the drug peddlers and ganja smugglers launched by Darrang Police, the well organized drug peddlers have very cunningly changed their time movement to the early hours only to avoid the police checking.

According to the information, in the wee hours on Tuesday at 3.30 am, while a police team from Burha Police Outpost was conducting mobile patrolling at Burha area, two youths riding two bikes were coming from Udalguri district via Duni towards Burha. On being confronted with the police team, both the bikers tried to flee with their bikes. Smelling some foulness in their attitude, the police team gave a hot chase. But one of the youths lost control of his bike and met with an accident near Dalangghat and sustained injuries. The police team immediately shifted him to Patharighat CHC then to Mangaldai Civil Hospital from where he was referred to GMCH.

However, the other rider managed to flee away from the spot along with his motorcycle. During the search operation on the spot, the police team recovered about 20 kilograms of contraband ganja from the motorcycle and one mobile phone. The injured biker has been identified as one Swmdwn Daimary son of Subhash Daimary of Sudempuri village under Udalguri Police Station of the BTR district of Udalguri.
