Green School Project: Tree Plantation Drive by Corbett Foundation

Numaligarh: A noble initiative of tree plantation at schools was undertaken by The Corbett Foundation, Kaziranga unit recently. Under this ‘Green School Project’, Tree saplings were planted by the students in the vicinity of three schools of the Numaligarh-Morangi area on Wednesday. The three schools are ‘Morangi Dina Nath High School’, ‘Dolaguri M.E. School’ and ‘Telgaram Sankardev Sishu Niketan’. In the three schools, 150 fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings were planted, 51 saplings at each schools. The planted saplings will be also protected and nurtured by local school children.

The plantation drive was completed on Wednesday in a day-long programme at all the three schools. Students, guardians along with school heads were also present and participated in the plantation programme. Chief Coordinator of the Green School Project along with other volunteers was present and initiated the plantation drive. It is pertinent to mention that apart from this plantation drive the Corbett Foundation will also organize extra-curricular activities related to environment education in these schools. The heads of all the three schools expressed their gratitude towards the Corbett Foundation for selecting their institutes for this noble venture.

Talking to this correspondent, Deputy Director of the Corbett Foundation Dr Naveen Pandey said, “The project is not about a number of saplings. The core objective is to culture of tree love and care. Educational games around plant’s lives and biology, involving parents while planting, letting students assume guardianship of each sapling and rigorous follow up make this project unique. This project is called the Green School Project.” “There is no shortage of trees in Numaligarh-Kaziranga. Compassion for them is certainly waning. We need to take care of that because it translates further with care of other forms of life,” he added.
