Guwahati Airport Ranked India's 10th Busiest Airport
This rank reflects the number of domestic passengers visiting the airport.

GUWAHATI: The Lokrpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport located in the city of Guwahati in Assam has bagged the rank of being the tenth busiest airport in India. This number is for the month of November 2022 and in terms of domestic passenger movements in the airports. The passenger volume at Lokrpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has increased and is now more than 16000 passengers a day.
The surge in travel demand has been mainly driven by domestic passenger movement and chartered services operations, especially during the start of the winter season.
During the month of November 2022, the airport handled a total of 4,57,858 domestic passengers thus registering a growth of 10% for the same month in the previous year. The airport reached the 10th position in the month of November 2022, from the 11th as ranked during the pre-pandemic time.
But this increase has also caused a major surge in the demand for facilities at the largest airport in the northeastern region of the country. This led to congestion and delays for the passengers, following which the authorities were forced to issue an advisory asking travellers to reach the airport three hours before the scheduled departure. Overcrowding, huge waiting times for check-in and security checks and missed flights still added to the woes of the passengers during the last few days.
As the weather suddenly deteriorated in several parts of Assam and the nearby states, flight services were also affected at the Guwahati Airport. Delayed flights caused several passengers to remain stranded in an airport for a long time. Congestion in traffic near the airport was also caused by this.
Authorities at the Guwahati International Airport released an advisory related to the weather phenomenon. The advisory asked the passengers to confirm their flight timings before leaving for the airport in view of several delays and cancellations.
