Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal urged on the people of the state to have full faith on Assam Police even as several police officials have been arrested for taking bribe and for their alleged involvement in cases of corruption including the mega Sub Inspector recruitment scam where a former Director General of Police is being named as the mastermind of the job scam being investigated by CID.
"'Have faith in the Assam Police. 'They are conducting the investigations with full commitment and honesty. They will complete the inquiry with full integrity and allegiance. We request your cooperation," the Chief Minister said on the sidelines of an event in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The CM's comments have come within hours of Darjeeling Police arresting the prime accused in the SI recruitment scam, DIG (retd) P K Deka from Kakarbhitta in south Nepal along the India-Nepal border.
The other prime accused, former BJP leader Diban Deka has already been arrested by Assam Police from Patacharkuchi in Assam.
Dutta and Deka are being considered to be the brains behind the job scam for the post of Sub Inspector in Assam Police.
Both Dutta and Deka were on the run since the corruption in the recruitment process came to light after the exams to fill 597 SI posts in Assam Police had to be cancelled as the question paper was leaked. The exam was held on September 20.
So far at least 23 more arrests have been done including an Assam Congress leader for their alleged involvement in the scam.
The SI exams would now be held on November 22, State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) had said.
