KOKRAJHAR: State Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday visited Kokrajhar and held meeting with district administration officials on the present situation of coronavirus pandemic and quarantine centres. Sarma held a meeting with senior officers of Kokrajhar district at the DC's conference hall and took details about COVID-19 positive cases and quarantine centres. The meeting was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, MLAs Rabiram Narzary and Majen Narzary, BTC IGP Anurag Agarwal and others. Accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Daimary, the Health and Family Welfare Minister also visited Parbhatjhora subdivision soon after returning from Dhubri.

Talking to mediapersons, Sarma said 3,000 returnees from different parts of the country were being housed in various quarantine centres in Kokrajhar district. He said people returning home from other States would have to go to quarantine centres and sample collection would be done within 4-8 days. The detection of positive cases in Kokrajhar was reducing, he said.

Replying to questions, Sarma said there was nothing to fear even if people came out after the lockdown was lifted if they strictly followed social distancing of 2 metres, wore masks and followed other guidelines. He said there was no necessity of putting flight passengers in quarantine centres if they came in the morning and returned in the evening.

On the educational side, Sarma said he wanted Class X and Class XII to resume classes but it would depend on the guidelines of the Home Ministry. He also said that there was no government decision on restricting people returning home from other States after June 10 but as per guidelines, they must be put in quarantine centres for 14 days while action would be taken against violators as per rules.
